About ART IS MY SUPERPOWER

Introduction:

Hello and welcome to about ART IS MY SUPERPOWER. I'm going to be talking about my second writing project which came out on the 20th December 2021.

With picking the name of the project I wasn't sure for a while but then one day I thought about ART IS MY SUPERPOWER as I felt it fit with what I wanted to talk about on this project.

It’s such a powerful title and felt it would work for the project. It’s also something I learned about myself the year before so the name made so much sense.

Official and Promotional Poems:

Official Poems:

Elemental (ft. Pablo Rouge), Unwanted Noise, We Have To Keep On Fighting (ft. Nadia) & Tears of Joy

So it all started with Elemental (ft. Pablo Rouge) the poem I dropped in July 2021.

This was a great introduction to the project as it has all the things I wanted for the project in this poem: superpowers, nature and more.

I decided to write about Air and Ground while Pablo Rouge wrote about Fire and Water.

To work with Pablo again after Lit Lyrics was amazing and I knew I wanted this poem on the project.

We also performed it together at Poetry LGBT (Online) and it was great to perform with Pablo even though it was online.

The next official poem was Unwanted Noise which came out in December 2021.  I was so nervous putting this poem on the project as it sees me sharing something that happened to me a few years ago but I'm glad I did add this poem to the project.

So a few years ago, I had a lot of negativity thrown at me about my creative work, the way I looked and more online which knocked my confidence a lot.

So one day I was in my room and was reflecting on it and Unwanted Noise was born.

One thing I like about this poem is the metaphors and similes I'm using throughout

This poem is different to a lot of the poems on the project because I wanted to let people know that my art/creative journey has not been easy and the unwanted noise nearly made me not want to continue creating. The part where I say “Should I keep my notepad open or close it for good?” this was something I thought about at the time because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue.

The next official poem after that was We Have To Keep On Fighting (ft. Nadia) which was revealed as the third official poem on February 2022.

This powerful poem is about fighting for the arts as I feel this is an important topic to discuss since there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. I love Nadia’s part in this poem and I’m so glad to have them be a part of the project.

The final official poem for the project was Tears of Joy which I revealed on October 2022.

This poem is a continuation of Unwanted Noise and it answers the question that I ask at the end of Unwanted Noise.

In this poem, I'm talking about how happy I am with my creative work and that is in the form of tears of joy as I've come a long way. I love the imagery throughout this piece one of my favourite parts is

“I walked outside to soak up the morning sunshine

As

The rainbow lining

In the clouds fills up my eyes

The cool breeze touches my skin

As I walk and take it all in”. I love the imagery throughout this part.

Promotional Poems:

Boxes, WORKING TOGETHER & Few Steps Away From Nature

The first promotional poem for the project was Boxes (it was known as One Box) but I decided I liked Boxes more. This poem came out on 27th August 2021. In this poem, I'm talking about how people have put me into a box, but also even now I've had people put me into a box.

This has also knocked my confidence as it was something that happened all the time.

In the poem, I say “people have always

Tried to put me into boxes of their choice

This is something

I have to

Experience over and over again

Finding it so hard to fit anywhere

Because

I'm given a label

Without

Even saying one word”.

This was something I found exhausting because any ideas I had was either pushed to the side, or I was ignored making me not believe in my ability.

People would often say you should write about this only, do this to gain more followers, to be popular etc.

I was pretty nervous about putting this poem on the project, but also making it the first promotional poem because it was something I haven’t spoken that much about before. But I felt this poem had to be on the project because I wanted to encourage people who feel like they're put into a box constantly or have been put into a box.

Especially with the line

“What I do know is

That I can do more than one thing

And that's okay

I'm going to step

Out of the box that society puts me in

Breathe and show the world what I can do

As we're not meant to

Be restricted to any boxes at all”.

The second promotional poem was a different tone to Boxes it was WORKING TOGETHER which came out on the 21st November 2021.

In this poem, I'm talking about how much I love collaborating, the different ways it makes me feel and also encouraging people to work together more.

One thing I love about this poem is the imagery the different ways I talk about the power of a collaboration.

One of the my favourite lines is

“Just like the Avengers, we can bring our Different powers to the collaboration”.

I thought of the avengers and compared that when it comes to collaborating since everyone brings their own unique powers to the collaboration.

The third and final promotional poem for the project was Few Steps Away From Nature. This poem is about nature inviting me to the spend some time surrounded in nature.

Nature is special to me and one thing that inspires me.

The poem is also on Eat The Storms (The Poetry Podcast) & Pen To Print’s website.

One of my favourite lines is “seeing all the different plants come together

A floral fabulous fragrance fills the air,

While I stand in awe,

The trees join my side

Keeping me company

The grass is so green,

I love the sense of freshness and growth”.

I love the imagery throughout picturing that special moment, the alliteration is cool and also, when I was writing this piece I was by nature so I described everything that was around me.

Collaborations:

So just like Beauty Within The Cracks, I wanted to have a few people on the project to be a part of the ART IS MY SUPERPOWER journey with me.

This was the first time working with Nadia & Polly Bull while I worked with 9ine (This Creation) & Pablo Rouge (Lit Lyrics) before.

So let's start with Sparkling Aria (ft. Polly Bull) this beautiful piece is having Polly Bull and I relaxing near a body of water and describing how it makes us feel and how powerful it is.

Firstly I love the name I think it's so beautiful and the imagery throughout is amazing.

I was inspired by a piece that Polly did before about water and I knew they had to be featured in this piece. So thank you Polly for being on this poem with me it means so much and make sure you check out their poems.

Next, we go to Art is Magical (ft. 9ine). This powerful piece is about what art means to us and how magical it is. The imagery and language devices throughout this piece are so cool.

9ine and I have worked together before on a piece called This Creation.

We knew we wanted to work together again after This Creation, so I'm glad they are on the project and especially on this powerful piece with me.

Thank you for being on this poem with me 9ine and make sure you check out their poems.

The poem after that was Elemental (ft. Pablo Rouge. You can check out more about this piece above. Thank you for being on Elemental Pablo and make sure you check out his poems.

The final collaboration on the project was We Have To Keep On Fighting (ft. Nadia). You can find out about this piece above. Thank you so much for being on this powerful piece with me and make sure you check out what great things they do.

Why a project like this?

I feel this project was needed because I wanted to take a dive into art and explore more about it. The messages, topics and themes I feel are important.

A few topics including: Feeling trapped in a box, keep on fighting for the arts, the impact of people’s negative comments, we need to work together more and few other things.

But also for people to find out more about me so that includes: Pokémon references (since I’m a fan), getting to have superpowers (since I think that’s cool), being surrounded in nature, getting to create my own place, I like to collaborate and more.

I knew in this project I wanted to have poems that had people learning about things I like in general.

With ART IS MY SUPERPOWER you can learn more about me, powerful pieces that hopeful start a conversation, inspires and motivates people but also have some fun throughout.

Achievements for the project:

•Performed at new open mic events

•ART IS MY SUPERPOWER (The Magical Experience) during the Summer. It was so much fun to do another experience after Beauty Within The Cracks (Experience)

ART IS MY SUPERPOWER (The Magical  Experience) 2022

•Collaborated on new poems

•I started planning my third poetry project

Conclusion:

I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported my second poetry project it means so much and continue to support me with my creative work.
