About
Steppin' Out Stronger

By MANNY (It's M to the Y)

Hello and welcome to About Steppin’ Out Stronger. In this, I'm going to be talking about my fourth writing project Steppin’ Out Stronger which came out in July 2025.

I wasn't sure what I was going to call it in the beginning, then I had a conversation with a few people and I was going through a few names that I had at the time and Steppin’ Out Stronger really stuck with me and I felt the title worked well because in the previous project I discovered my BURNIN’ FLAME and in this one I was stepping into my power, showcasing my skills & abilites, feeling more better in my skin but also opening up about a few things that has happened since I stepped out.

Official and Promotional Pieces:

Official Pieces:

  • Only Human, LIVIN’ IT UP, FLAVOUR, Trekkin’ Through The Darkness (ft. Stevie Ferland) & Steppin’ Out Stronger

So I started the era in January 2025 with Only Human (the first official piece). I chose this deep, powerful and uplifting monologue to kick off the era because I felt that this was a good start for the project, but also to say to treat people with more kindness and that we’re only human. This is my third monologue (after Unwanted Noise & RISE). One thing I like about this piece is having this part: “I’m human, just like you, I’m human” - it’s simple, but I still feel like people forget that about people, but also feel like there's so much weight to that.

The second official piece I dropped was LIVIN’ IT UP (living my best life, I’m livin’) this was on the 11th April 2025 as a surprise release. Also, on the same day, I revealed the name of the project as I felt like the energy for both was there so decided to drop LIVIN’ IT UP alongside the name reveal which was cool and different for me to do.

This is a spoken word rap piece/song I can say so much about because it did so much for Steppin’ Out Stronger, also helped me with confidence and just helped me in so many different ways.

LIVIN’ IT UP is all about living your best life, owning what you do, being apologetically you, having fun, enjoying life and it’s also a chance for people to get to know me more and what I like off stage a few examples I like: Mario, Sonic, Pokémon & Nintendo Switch.

In this piece/song, I explore more wordplay than I ever had before and I had so much fun writing this one + always have so much fun performing it.

It wasn't easy picking a favourite part as I love the whole thing, but from first verse:

“Celebratin’

Down my lane

Kartin’ around like Mario

On Rainbow Road

Findin’ power-ups,

Dodgin’ obstacles with ease

The warm sunshine guides my

Path to success and peace

Tropical breeze

As I bop through,

Yeah, this feels so cool.

I’m on fire baby,

Yeah, you can call me ignite

Been through some down days

Now you’ll

See my might”

to the second verse:

“It’s M to the Y

And

I’m bringing the flames

Now people are knowin’ my Name

My face card is makin’

You feel some sort of way

You can just soak this all up

I’m like darts in the dark

Flowin’ at fast speed

Like Sonic

People can’t see the strike

Good energy and good vibes

That’s what I like

I’m chasin’ my goals

With determination indeed,

Stackin’ wins like Tetris,

While

I’m collectin’ my golden rings”

“I’m back again while

I push my pen

Time for you to give

People their tens

Time for me to show you

What I can do

And speak my truth

Bars so fire,

They’re lightin’ up the booth

Find me, catchin’ the vibes,

Flippin’ the script

While I’m on my

Nintendo Switch

Joy-con in my grip

I’m on that grind,

Seekin’ out Pokémon,

Gotta catch ‘em all

It’s time”

To the bridge:

“If people want to

Bring you bad vibes

Tell them bye, bye

Tell them bye, bye

Even though they might be

Cute, handsome,

Beautiful and so sexy

Still

Tell them bye, bye

Tell them bye, bye

If they want to

Gas up your space

Well

That is a waste of our time

Tell them bye, bye

Tell them bye-bye

Bye,

Bye,

Bye”

I just have to say I LOVE THIS BRIDGE SO MUCH. I just had to say that haha. What’s your favourite wordplay, rhyming scheme in this?

I want to say thank you to everyone who has checked out LIVIN’ IT UP, it means a lot

Also, a fun fact, when I next get into the studio I would like this to be my next single after Island Whine. Stay tuned for this.

The third official piece for Steppin’ Out Stronger was the sexy and cool piece FLAVOUR which came out when the whole project dropped on the 25th of July 2025, I had so much fun writing this poem. This piece was different for me to write, but I enjoyed working on this. I also dropped the extended version on the 29th of August 2025 this was first time I’ve ever done this for one of my pieces.

This piece is all about freedom, expression, art, feeling sexy, fun and joy. This was another piece where it wasn't easy to pick one favourite part, but here are a few of my favourite parts:

My island whine
Caught your eye

And you replied

Let’s produce our own

Beautiful visual of poetry tonight

As clothes come off

And glide to the floor,

Our bodies are now
Pressed together

And a conversation begins

Also:

With every kiss, a song starts,

Feeling like they’re art,

Brush my lips, it's divine,

Verses leaping out of us

With our hearts,
Each stanza echoes deep

Each syllable
Simmers seamlessly;

We lose ourselves
In metaphors and similes

From the late nights to
The sunrise mornings

I’ll be serving up
That flavour for you

Sizzling spice
Or vanilla cool breeze?

What about
Pineapple poppin’,

Raspberry shockin'?

Or maybe coconut chillin’,

Tropical rockin’?

Sprinkle in a little

Mango magic mixed

With caramel dreams,

Like ocean waves

Flowing in moonbeam streams

I also really enjoying working on this and extended it made me love the piece so much more than I already did. What's one of your favourite parts?

The fourth official piece for the project, was Trekkin’ Through The Darkness (ft. Stevie Ferland) which I revealed on the 6th of October (the start of The Steppin’ Out Stronger Experience Pt. 1)

I remember working on this poem with Stevie, this was my first time working with him, and he killed it. I knew from when we worked on it I wanted it to be an official piece.

I knew Stevie more for his music in the beginning and it always inspired me, then he sent me a poem he worked on and it was amazing, but I wanted to work with him before he sent me the poem so I’m glad we have a collaborared now. Thank you so much Stevie for being wonderful, lovely and so supportive.

This is a powerful poem about a journey and the highs & lows. I like how my part flows straight into Stevie’s verse it’s so smooth! I couldn't choose a favourite part as I love the whole thing, but Stevie and I did that.

The fifth and final official piece for the project was the title piece: STEPPIN’ OUT STRONGER, it made sense having the title piece be the final official piece as it draws everything together. I revealed that this was the final official piece on the 5th of January 2026 (the start of The Steppin’ Out Stronger Experience Pt. 2).

This piece is a spoken word rap piece and I had so much fun writing this one. Again this piece has a lot of cool references and it’s one of my favourite title pieces I have worked on so far.

Steppin’ Out Stronger is all about stepping into my own, feeling more confident in my skin, feeling more beautiful than ever before, being more kind to myself and encouraging people to give more love and kindness to themselves.

This is another piece where I love the whole thing, but a few of my favourite parts are:

In the kitchen, I’m crafting,

Every dish a delight,

Cookin’ up a storm

Lettin’ my dreams take flight

Preparin’ delicious dreams,

Like a chef,

Seasonin’ up the air

Every dish an adventure

Every spice got a tale,

Joy on my palate,

Hope in my inhale.

I trust in my tools,

These hands can create,

With passion and love,

I’m now controlling my fate

Also:

With that sunshine glow,

I’m blazin’ so bright,

People throwin’ shade,

But, I rise above it

I’m shinin’ like a star,

Call me cinematic

I’m steppin’ out

And

Leapin’ up high

Like a Yoshi jump,

Soarin’ through the chaos,

Like Tails,

I am strong and steady,

You can call me Knuckles

While

I'm here makin’ waves.

In this lyrical dojo,

I’m the wordplay samurai,

Slicin’ through the noise,

While breakin’ down walls

Watch me elevate and glide

What's your favourite parts in this piece? Again I want to say a huge, thank you to everyone who has supported the official pieces what's your favourite out of the 5?

Promotional Pieces

  • Body Talks (with Jack Norman) & It’s Okay to Cry

Now onto the Promotional Pieces for the project, there wasn't that many this time around, but the two I picked I feel promoted the project so well.

The first promotional piece for the project was the powerful and beautiful piece Body Talks (with Jack Norman) which I dropped on the 21st of February 2025. So this is one of favourite pieces I’ve ever worked on and I had it for a while before it was Steppin’ Out Stronger, I was waiting for the right project to put it on and I’m glad it’s this one as it's such a special piece.

Body Talks is about being kinder to our bodies, but also talking about what we go through with our bodies.

This piece means a lot to me as I’ve suffered from body image for so long and never saw any beauty in myself (until recently, but still on the journey). I love this whole piece but one of favourite parts is:

Your body is

YOUR canvas

Painted with different

Colours

As it showcases how powerful it is.

Acknowledging the brain

Above our lips

Travelling right

Down to our hips.

These bodies have done us

Nothing but good

Feeling sad

For every time

We compare them to

Another,

But still, they wrap their arms

Around us gently

When everything else

In life feels distant.

Wow, I remember writing that and how much it touched me. What's one of your favourite parts of this piece?

The second and final promotional piece was It’s Okay to Cry. This is another one of my favourites (I have so many).

This is another powerful piece about crying, the beauty of tears, how there’s so much beauty and strength in being vulnerable, it’s a piece I wanted to write for a while as growing up for me and sharing my emotions and how I was feeling wasn't easy and I’m glad I found writing, the stage and creating as it’s helped me so much. I say in this part here:

“I’ve been told

I shouldn't share how

I’m feeling

It’ll make you look weak,

Just hide it away,

Don’t cry

You're not a real man if you do

Just stand up high,

Forget about it

You'll be just fine

Just lock it up, don’t let it show”

This was really hard to write because I’ve been told this for so long (even when I was a young adult) and I felt (at the time) that I didn't matter or my feelings wasn't that important, but I now know I do matter and that my feelings are important, but it took me a while to get here (I’m still working on it), but I have come so far from then.

Again I love this whole piece, but if I had to pick a favourite part from this it would be:

But I say to everyone

Show them that you can,

Let go of your storm,

Embrace your

Vulnerable feelings,

There’s so much

Power and beauty in that

If eyes did not shed tears,

The soul

Would never

Notice a glistening rainbow

So when you feel,

Like you can’t bear,

Remember the moments,

You’re not alone there

From joy to sadness,

It’s all part of life,

Each tear tells it’s own story,

A warrior's strife.

Let’s lift each other up,

In this grand parade,

Breakin’ those chains,

Society’s mould,

With every drop,

Watch it shine

Like a sparkling waterfall's might

Let it flow,

Let it all go,

Let it pour out,

Just let it flow

It’s okay to cry

It’s okay to cry

But I love the whole thing, especially with the part “It’s Okay to Cry, It’s Okay to Cry” (similar to Only Human) it’s simple, but has so much power to it, which is why I repeat it. Repetition was important to me in this project which is why I use it a few times. What’s your favourite part of the piece

Even though there was only two promotional pieces this time around, I felt like these two pieces were the right ones.

•Collaborations:

As you lot know I love collaborating with people and I wanted to have a few people on this project with me to be a part of the Steppin’ Out Stronger journey.

So the first one was Trekkin’ Through The Darkness (ft. Stevie Ferland) which I speak about above

The second was Jack Norman which I also speak about above

The third was Tarlia on MELANINAIRE (similar to Body Talks we worked on this piece a few years ago), it was actually near the same time I worked on Body Talks funnily enough. We went to the same uni and I was inspired by a lot of her work and I knew I wanted to collaborate with her on something and I’m glad we did.

This piece was about encouraging black people to love their skin more and the beauty of our skin. This is definitely a piece I needed when I was younger so I hope it resonates with people. I love Tarlia’s part as it gives history as well which I think is amazing and teaches people.

One of my favorite parts in this piece is:

“My skin is strong

Hurt and belittled for a long time

Now it is my powerful armour

It glows and

Supports me along the whole way.

It sings to me with its

Rhythmic tune of beauty.

My skin cuddles me

Like a soft blanket,

As

It reminds me who I am”

Also:

“The colour of my skin

Lives today safely from intimidation

Though people might be horrible,

It believes that better days are ahead.

Melanin

Glam up,

Glow up

Time for the level-up.

Love your beautiful melanin skin

Let it sparkle and

Glisten in the golden sun

I stand firm in my colours

As I feel so proud of what I got

England,

Trinidad & Tobago,

Barbados and Dominica

British Caribbean Badass.”

But the whole piece is incredible and so powerful. What’s your favourite part?

The fourth collaborative piece was Paradise (ft. Thomas). This was another piece I worked on around the time of working on Body Talks & MELANINAIRE. I’ve been wanting to have this piece on a project for a while and I’m glad it’s on Steppin’ Out Stronger.

Thomas is amazing and so lovely, I met him when I was at uni and I did a photoshoot with him and then I found out ne always writes and we worked together on this cute and sweet piece.

It’s all about when you're in a relationship with someone and it feels like paradise. Thomas killed his part and it’s so sweet. One of my favourite parts is:

Let’s dance together

In this celestial ballet,

Connecting like  flowers

Spinning in the wind
In this moment here forever,

Where it all begins

Our eyes are locked

While

Time pauses

Silence takes over

But our heartbeats sing loud,

No words needed

When the vibes speak true
This is a sacred space

I share with you

Standing together,

Hand in hand

This is our precious paradise.

This was different for me to write (at the time) as I never written about love, being in a relationship etc back then. What’s your favourite part?

The fifth and final collaborative piece was TAKIN’ OVER (with Kevin & Hinny)

This piece was the first time I had two people on one piece and they both killed it!!! We worked on this piece a few years ago (around the time of Body Talks, MELANINAIRE & Paradise) this was another one that I wanted on a project for a while and I’m glad it’s on here. The energy of this spoken word rap piece is definitely what Steppin’ Out Stronger is about.

TAKIN’ OVER is all about owning your art, being you, doing what you love, being fierce, fabulous and having fun. I met Kevin and Hinny at Poetry LGBT a few years ago and I’ve worked with both of them a few times, but this was our first piece altogether.

I had so much fun writing this one and had to talk to my talk a little on this. One of my favourite parts is:

If people want to

Be negative

I’ll let them, while I create

Time for me to showcase

My art like Tate

If you’re here to start trouble

Better take that mess out,

While I sip my drink,

Hold my cup up high,

Watch me whine my waist, no doubt

Time to dance

Through the noise,

Putting my all into each move,

With that confident grace

While I’m

Bringin’ the sauce

Seasonin’ the place

Marvel at my journey,

Let's unite like the Avengers.”

This piece comes after PRIDE in the project and I decided to do that as you have three queer artists on one piece and it’s our moment to take over and for people to take us seriously as queer people so important. What's one of your favourite parts?

Why a project like this?

  • I feel this project was needed because of the messages and themes I was talking about throughout: Body Image, Identity, Community, Race, Gender, Sexuality, Celebration, Bravery, Relationships & more

  • A few topics and themes on the project I’ve never spoken about (but I felt ready) for this

  • I also wanted to explore more wordplay in this project (which I have done before, but not much, but this project has inspired me to do more wordplay and also rhythmic pieces after the success of Island Whine & LIVIN’ IT UP and seeing people enjoy that from me

  • I hope this project has inspired you to own what you do, showcase what you love & enjoy (even if people don’t get it), be apologetically you, supporting people, being kind and more

Achievements for the project:

  • I did my first launch in the summer which was so much fun and I learned a lot from doing it. I was super nervous when I started planning for it, thinking is this right or not, but the process helped me

  • Got to go on the radio for the first time

  • Hosted an open mic event at a Pride event which was so lovely and I performed It’s Okay to Cry & LIVIN’ IT UP

Steppin’ Out Stronger Experience Part One and Two (October 2025 - March 2026)

•Hoxton Radio twice: this was so much fun, I was a little nervous for the the first one, but the second one I was feeling more confident (I also got to perform which was amazing and I definitely want to do more) I feel that performing helped me feel more relaxed which is interesting to say haha but it's true.

•Performed at events (including open mic events and more)

•Performing around London

•Working on PROJECT FIVE

•Worked on new art work for the pieces

•What’s coming up next?

  • I’ll be taking a break after the 6th of March

  • The new era will be starting

  • I’ll be dropping two pieces from PROJECT FIVE next month to give you a little taste of the project

  • The first official piece will be out after that (I’m working on some cool stuff for it at the moment)

PROJECT FIVE (the sequel to Steppin’ Out Stronger)

I’ve stepped out stronger into a new unknown place!!! But what mysteries lies in this unknown place? This is a direct sequel to Steppin’ Out Stronger.

In this project I’m adventuring in a new place that I’ve come up with and it’s going to have a sprinkle of Sci Fi, adventure and a few other genres (which is so cool and one of my favourite genres is Sci Fi and I really like adventure as well), more spoken word/spoken word rap this time around exploring more wordplay, rap, rhythmical pieces after the success of Island Whine & LIVIN’ IT UP, monologues and a few other things.

I feel like I’ve grown a lot more in my writing and also in myself since steppin’ out stronger and I explore that throughout this project while having some fun.

I hope you're ready for an exciting ride exploring this unknown place.

**************************

This is just a little extra early treat to say thank you to everyone who has supported and checked out Steppin’ Out Stronger (don’t say I don’t treat you)

About piece number one:

The first piece I’ll be talking about is a fun and rhymical piece. I gave you a little taste of it last year, but I’ve added new parts to it. This has a cool reference to one of my favourite games and fits the vibe of PROJECT FIVE.

About piece number two:

The second piece I’m going to be talking about is a deeper one. This is something I wanted to talk about for a while, I also love the imagery in this piece and this piece fits the story of this project so well, I hope you’re ready to read both of these pieces.

Snippet of the first official piece:

“Now I walk in with my chin up

Same person

Just a louder truth

Carrying the version

That they laughed at

Like a banner running

Straight through the roof

A whisper a rumble a rising sound

An unwritten symphony all around

They told me play it safe

Don't take a chance

But my soul just

Simply wanted to dance

I had to break free

From the chains of doubt

Let my true voice finally shout”.

I hope you're ready for this piece, I enjoyed writing this one and it’s a bit different for me, but how I feel.

This piece also has a double meaning with the title, which I’ve never had before.

Conclusion

I would like to say thank you to everyone who read through Steppin’ Out Stronger and support me with my creative work it means so much.

Do you have a favourite piece or pieces from the project and why?

I hope you have a bit more insight into Steppin’ Out Stronger.

The Steppin’ Out Stronger Experience Pt. 2 officially finishes on the 6th of March and that’ll be it for this era, but then after my break, we will be moving on to the sequel!!!!!!

Are you ready?
